Doggie in the window

A US & UK Chart Topper!

How much is that doggie in the window?

The one with the waggly tail

How much is that doggie in the window?

I do hope that doggie's for sale.

I don't want a bunny or a kitty

I don't want a parrot that talks

I don't want a bowl of little fishies

He can't take a goldfish for a walk

Oh we love singing "How Much Is That Doggie in the Window?" - we have such a giggle adding in the "woof woof!".

I always thought it was a traditional rhyme, but this will surprise you...

It's actually a relatively recent song compared to many of our traditional Nursery Rhymes that date back hundreds of years!

It was written in 1952 by Bob Merrill and was originally recorded by Patti Page and released as a song in 1953.

Now here's the amazing fact....

The song was hugely popular, it reached No. 1 in the Billboard Charts in the US, staying there for 8 whole weeks and sold over 2 million copies! Blimey!

Here in the UK Lita Roza recorded a cover version which was released in the same year, and went to *No. 1* in the UK charts for one week. This made her the first British female solo singer to reach the top of the UK charts!

  • Bonus fact: it was also the first song to reach number one in the UK with a question in the title!

Woof woof!

Happy singing!
