All Aboard!
We love singing "The Wheels on the Bus" in our Around the World theme! Verses have been adapted and added over the years, the original first verse was:
The wheels on the bus go round and round
Round and round
Round and round
The wheels on the bus go round and round
Over the city streets
Did you know that a lady called Verna Hills from Boston in the US is credited as the writer of the song - the lyrics first appeared in the publication "American Childhood" Vol 25, published in 1939.
Motorised school buses were an increasingly popular mode of transport for school children, they were a necessity if they lived miles from the nearest school, and so the rhyme would keep them occupied on their journey.
Hats off to the bus driver listening to that every day!
We love adding a tickle verse with the "spiders on the bus" at the end!
Happy singing!
